Our newsletter this week is dedicated primarily to Green Week, which is set to begin next Monday, November 2nd, and continue through Friday, November 6th. Green Week is a week-long exposition of global environmental sustainability, featuring cutting-edge innovations from leading companies. Led by the Duke MBA Net Impact Club, this event will draw leaders in renewable energy, clean technology, sustainable mobility, and consumer goods and services. Along with large-scale public displays, panel discussions, and networking events, we will offer a field tour to the Smart Home to see a prime example of a cutting-edge local sustainability initiative.

We have also included in this newsletter some of the other exciting events that are happening this week at Duke related to sustainability, energy, and the environment. Green Week will culminate in the Green Week Fuqua Friday on November 6th which will be held off campus (more details to follow). We look forward to seeing you at these events next week!

The Future of Capitalism
"Building a Sustainable Energy Future: Market Approaches to Choices and Trade-offs"

When:  Thursday, November 5th, 4:00-6:00pm

Where: Geneen Auditorium

Fuqua and McKinsey are collaborating on a four-part series called The Future of Capitalism, to be hosted at Fuqua and shared with The McKinsey Quarterly’s 2 million online subscribers. This joint endeavor combines Fuqua’s ability to engage diverse experts in frank dialogue with McKinsey’s impact and industry reach, to shed new light on some of the most important questions of our time.  The series will consist of four forums on broad topics: energy, the financial system, globalization and business education.

The inaugural session features a remarkable panel of experts and leaders, including:

  • Tom Albanese, CEO, Rio Tinto
  • Aubrey McClendon, CEO, Chesapeake Energy
  • George McLendon, Chairman, PTP Energy and Dean, Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, Duke University
  • Scott Nyquist, Managing Director of McKinsey’s Energy Practice
  • Bill Timmerman, CEO, SCANA Energy

The timing of this inaugural forum capitalizes on the confluence of the speakers’ availability. We hope that as many Fuqua students, faculty, and staff as possible will attend; but we also note that many classes will be in session at that time and, as always, those are top priority.

The second forum on the financial system is set for Saturday, February 27; details to follow.
