We wanted to send you a brief mid-week newsletter to highlight 3 important events/deadlines.

  1. FY/SY Mixer Tommorrow (10/1) @ Tyler's:
    Please be sure to come to the FY/SY Mixer at Tyler's Taproom tomorrow night, Thursday, October 1st, from 7-9pm. Come meet your classmates, chat about Second Years' internships in the social sector, and get the scoop on life at Fuqua as a Net Impacter. The address to Tyler's and more below.

    Also, attached you will find a spreadsheet of where all fellow members interned this past summer or where graduates recently began full-time positions. Feel free to look though the May 2009 employment survey before the mixer this Thursday. Net Impact members are highlighted to give you an idea of what types of functions/industries Net Impact'ers are interested in.

  2. First Year Interest Survey:
    If you are a FY, please be sure to fill out the FY Interest Survey!   3. Net Impact Conference - Early registration and resume DUE TOMORROW (10/1) :
    The early registration deadline for the Net Impact Conference at Cornell University is tomorrow, October 1st! Although you can still sign up after the 1st, the registration fee will increase. Also, be sure to send your resume to Liana Humphrey in the conference format by October 1st so that your resume will be included in the Fuqua resume book. For more details, please refer to the announcement below.

Net Impact National Conference

Are you a Changemaker, Innovator or Problem Solver?  If so, then the 2009 Net Impact Conference is for you! Rooms and flights are filling up fast so ACT NOW to secure your place at this exciting event.

When: November 13-15, 2009

Where:  Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

Details:  The 2009 Conference curriculum will feature over 100 panels and case studies that highlight such topics as clean technology, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable investing, and includes keynote speakers like Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE. Of course, the weekend wouldn’t be complete without offering a taste of Ithaca, and we invite attendees to “Experience the Finger Lakes” via a tour focused on sustainable practices applied by local businesses.

What you need to do:

  1. Register before Thursday, October 1 to take advantage of the early bird rate and save $50 over the regular fee. The conference is expected to sell out, so this will also guarentee you a spot.   Become a member of the National Net Impact organization to receive an additional discount, as well as gain access to the member database, job board and more.  Click here to REGISTER NOW!

  2. Submit your resume.  The deadline for submitting your resume to the NI National Conference resume book is now October 12.
    Please also submit your resume to liana.humphrey@duke.edu. by October 1st so we can build a resume book for Fuqua visitors.

About the Conference:   The 2009 Net Impact Conference will be held at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. The conference brings together the players behind the sustainable global enterprise movement, including sustainability and corporate responsibility practitioners, social entrepreneurs, and nonprofit leaders. Logistics

Flights:  The area is served by two airports: Ithaca Thompkins Regional Airport, which is just 10 mins from the Cornell campus and Syracuse Hancock Regional Airport, which is about a 90 min drive away. Both require a connection when flying out of RDU. Flights into Ithaca on Thursday evening are filling up fast, so if you want to get a seat, book soon.

Hotel:  Net Impact has arranged special rates at a number of local hotels. Unfortunately, the Best Western, Country Inn and Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, and Holiday Inn Downtown are already sold out. The following hotels near the airport have 12 or fewer rooms available in the room block:

  • Homewood Suites - $139/one bedroom suite – 607-266-0000

All provide free shuttle transportation to/from the conference. Make sure you ask for the Net Impact rate when making your reservation.
